Liposuction & Liposculpture
Candidates for Liposuction generally have some of the following characteristics:
- Localized pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise (e.g. saddlebags)
- Firm, elastic skin that will adjust well to changes in body contour
- Good overall health
- Average or slightly above-average weight
Procedures that improve the contour of carefully chosen areas of a patient’s body are known as Liposculpture and Liposuction. In conjuction with the patient, Dr. Keegan evaluates areas of fatty accumulation and marks the areas that can effectively be treated with liposuction. While the patient is asleep, areas of unwanted fatty accumulation are injected with a solution to numb the area and mobilize fat. A small tube is inserted into fatty areas and a pump or syringe is used to remove excess fat.
Liposuction is ideal for localized fatty areas including the abdomen, hips and flanks, thighs, knees and arms. Liposculpture is similar to Liposuction, except that even small amounts of fat are moved during the procedure, and may at times be performed with the patient awake.
Liposuction is often performed on an outpatient basis and recovery is generally easy and rapid.
